I received my BS in Zoology from Auburn University and my MS in Biology from the University of Arkansas. My MS thesis was titled "Natal origins of raptors migrating through the Florida Keys: a stable isotope approach". I conducted my research in the Florida Keys, corunning a bird of prey banding station in conjunction with the Florida Keys Raptor Migration Project. This research will most likely lead to the publication of three manuscripts for me (one already published, one submitted, and one in preparation). While at Auburn I worked at the then Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center (now SRC) where I served as Director of Outreach and Director of Rehabilitation, in addition to working in the medical facility where we received injured birds and giving numerous educational programs to the public. This led to the publication of a manuscript published by myself (Sara Ress at the time) and my advisor (Ress, S. and C. Guyer. 2004. A retrospective study of mortality and rehabilitation of raptors in the southeastern United States. Journal of Raptor Research 38:77-81.). I currently teach environmental science, biology, and anatomy and physiology at a charter high school. I enjoy traveling for pleasure (Europe, Central America, Caribbean, all over the U.S.) as well as for study abroad language immersion programs, a tropical ecology course, and mission/service trips. I love to bird, hike and camp, spending free time with my husband and two dogs in the Ozark Mountains where I currently live.
